Mostotrest to overhaul M-4 Don highway alternative route in Lipetsk region

Commissioned by the Russian Highways State Company, Mostotrest PJSC will carry out a major overhaul of the km 354.5 – km 401 section of the alternative (toll-free) route of the M-4 “Don” Highway (Moscow-Voronezh-Rostov-on-Don-Krasnodar-Novorossiysk) in the Stanovlyansky and Yeletsky districts of the Lipetsk region. Mostotrest was the sole participant in the e-tender for the project and has been awarded the contract by decision of the tender committee.

The road section to be reconstructed is located between traffic interchanges at the junction of the M-4 "Don" Highway to the Yelets Bypass. The section begins at km 354 + 500, past the traffic interchange located in the Stanovlyansky district, has several exits to the M-4 "Don" Federal Toll Highway, and links localities with district centres of the Lipetsk region. The contract value is RUB4.613 billion (incl. VAT). Scheduled completion: November 2021.

As part of the project, Mostotrest will overhaul the existing alternative route with a length of over 44 km, including full restoration and improvement of the road pavement, road bed and road structures. Taking into account growing traffic intensity and vehicle axial loads, the geometrical parameters of the road will be increased within the limits of standards corresponding to road categories 2 and 3, with four lanes in each direction and a design speed of 100/120 kmh. The type of capital pavement is crushed stone-mastic asphalt concrete, known for its excellent performance characteristics (in particular, as runway pavement). Repair work on the site will be done in stages.

A special feature of the construction project will be passage of the reconstructed highway through localities of the Stanovlyansky and Yeletsky districts of the Lipetsk region: the settlements of Stanovoye, Trostnoye, Khmelynets, Yelets, Buyevka and Yekaterinovka (44% of the total road length). In addition, there are 143 local road intersections and junctions in the contract area. Traffic interchanges with the toll section located in the contract area at km 357 + 527 and km 397 + 083 were repaired earlier this year and are excluded from the scope of the new contract.
